A New Chapter for LGDA

At LGDA, our mission has always been to support patients and families affected by complex lymphatic anomalies (CLAs) through advocacy, education, and research. As medical understanding evolves, so must we.

We are preparing for an exciting change: a new name and identity that reflect both the latest science and the diverse community we serve.

Historically, LGDA focused on lymphangiomatosis and Gorham’s disease. Today, “lymphangiomatosis” is no longer used on its own and is instead understood as part of broader CLA diagnoses. There are now five recognized CLA subtypes:

  • Generalized Lymphatic Anomaly (GLA)
  • Kaposiform Lymphangiomatosis (KLA)
  • Gorham-Stout Disease (GSD)
  • Central Conducting Lymphatic Anomaly (CCLA)
  • Generalized Lymphatic Dysplasia (GLD)

We also recognize the significant overlap between CLAs and isolated lymphatic malformations (LMs). Many LM patients face complex symptoms that align closely with CLA experiences. The new ISSVA classification system reflects how interconnected these conditions are.

This update is more than a name change. It reflects our commitment to:

  • Serving both the CLA and LM communities
  • Aligning with current scientific understanding
  • Building a more inclusive space for patients, families, and professionals

Our mission remains the same: advancing research, raising awareness, and supporting everyone affected by these rare conditions.

We look forward to sharing more in the months ahead—and we’re grateful to have you with us on this journey.
