Taija Makinen, Ph.D., presents on the preclinical genetically-engineered mouse model of generalized lymphatic anomaly and lymphatic malformation. About Our Presenter: Taija Mäkinen completed her doctoral studies in the laboratory of Prof. Kari Alitalo at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Following postdoctoral training with Prof. Rüdiger Klein at the Max-Planck-Institute of Neurobiology in Martinsried, Germany, she moved to the UK and established her research group at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (now the Francis Crick Institute) in 2007. In 2013 she moved to Uppsala University, Sweden, where she was promoted to professor in 2019. Taija’s research is focused on understanding the mechanisms that regulate the lymphatic vasculature in development and homeostasis. A major interest of her group is also to understand how regulators of developmental lymphangiogenesis impact on genetic human diseases. Through better understanding of normal and pathological lymphatic vessel growth her group hopes to create opportunities for the development of new therapies for lymphatic diseases including CLA.
